Electricity Tasmania

The Energy Ombudsman of Tasmania is responsible for offering free and independent services for dispute-resolution to electricity and natural gas customers and energy distributors and retailers. All decisions undertaken by it are based on current law and with a purpose to achieve fair outcome.

The Office of the Tasmanian Economic Regulator, or OTTER, is the regulatory authority responsible for regulating the activities in energy, gas, water and sewerage sectors. Price regulation is also one of the key roles of this office. Due to amendments in the Electricity Industry Act 1995 with a view to remove regulatory functions from government business enterprises, OTTER was established as an independent economic, technical and safety regulator.
